The ruins are at a short cycling distance from the Aran Island Pier.

Dún Aonghasa has been called (citing wikipedia) "the most magnificent barbaric monument in Europe." Its name, meaning "Fort of Aonghas", refers to the pre-Christian god of the same name described in Irish mythology, or the mythical king, Aonghus mac Úmhór.

We were surprised that there are no walls or fences protecting a fall into the ocean a hundred meters below the cliff rim. That, in my opinion, makes the spot more interesting and unique.

A must see visit in Aran Island.

The scenery from the top is utterly beautiful. And much less crowded than the more popular (and populated) Cliffs of Moer.

Thanks for the rating, glad you liked it!
