I had hoped to be able to reach Giles Spring by coming down off the nose of The Elephant, but it was too steep. After backtracking, I found a good route for the rest of the way. But earlier, after leaving the Pound Track, it was very scratchy and strenuous for a couple of hours.

I carried 3 litres of water and drank most of it. Although I found good water at Giles Spring, it's necessary to have a Plan B in case the spring is dry.
