preto de Bogomila, Општина Чашка (Македонија)

I don't know why I started recording from Bogomila as the way was not much and tarmac road. But it was really cool being able to see Solunska Glava from the valley! I also had to walk from here to the Papradishte hut after taking a very early train and arriving before dawn.

Anyway, I copied a trail recorded by filip.filipovskif and it's definitely a great one as it gives you a good view of the mountain range from the southwest as you approach Solunska Glava eastward. Great maybe except the end. I have to say, this is one of the most beautiful mountains I've seen in the Balkans. With its dramatic, granite slopes that drop deep down into the valley. Amazing.

The trail starts west of the village and it's well marked with red and blue paint. It's very easy to follow. However, once you get to the beech tree forest, the trail itself disappears under the dead leaves so you have to look at the markings. There are plenty so it's difficult to get lost. At the first way point, it's not so visible that you need to make a right but you see a trail that is very apparent and eventually joins the main trail. I took a wrong turn and followed a wide trail/road but should've followed on the left. No worries there as it was easy to find the main trail again.

You get up high on a hill to get a good view of what awaits. The trail becomes just grass but appears at some points. Follow the markings. After you reach a sign, you follow a dirt road northwest but pay attention as the trail deviates towards the hill (not the road) towards north. You can see I had trouble finding it in my recording but there should be markings (this time yellow and blue).

After getting over the hill, the trail becomes just grass with some markings spread around. Just keep going north and on the lower slope and you'll eventually find a trail and markings. This happens a lot here until you start climbing towards the first pass and then gets better. After the first pass, it's grass again but look for the trail towards northwest as it sticks to the slope to go northeast until the next pass. After this pass markings become red and white. Also, I recommend reaching the top of the hill in front of you. It will please your eyes with how marvelous this mountain is (I spent a good amount of time here). Beautiful. Then it's straight forward to the false summit (it's a guarded weather station so not allowed to summit - still worth going up).

The way down is easy other than when you reach km 29 in my recording. I was deviating towards Nezhilovo by mistake and tried to rejoin the trail going west. Please note, this is a super old trail that had barely any markings or an actual trail. Actually, for the entire part before the river, it was mainly going through downed trees, weeds, etc. Not fun. At times you see markings but it's useless to follow as there is no path. You just have to get across the river safely and eventually you'll see the old trail. Even after crossing you have to go through some overgrown bushes and fallen trees (and a lovely field of stinging nettle too!). Good luck here. Don't know if there's a better route. I saw a road on maps.me so maybe that's better (but probably longer).

What a perfect day!
