Descripción del itinerario

One of the longer hiking loops in Frontenac Provincial Park, I've been meaning to do this one for a while. It was OK... I'll start with the highlights. The 5 km section from "Stream with bridge" waypoint to the West Slide junction was really special. Great views of Slide Lake (a picturesque lake) a place to swim (easy access) interesting rock and forest features, I really enjoyed this segment of the hike and it is a part of the park well worth seeing. Also, because it is a section of the park less traveled you'll be more likely to see wildlife, on this hike I ran across deer twice (3 in total) and a black bear cub (did not see mama bear).

Getting over to Slide and back was tough on a very hot and humid day (30 felt like 40). And after Slide Lake there were no good places to replenish water until you return to Big Salmon Lake (and your starting point). The hike is a loop, I stopped recording at the dock on Big Salmon and went for a swim to cool down (not a great place for a swim). Footing on trail was tricky, slipped numerous times and I found it hard to make progress in many spots. It may be a while before I do this one again.

Parking and toilets are located at the start/stop at Big Salmon Lake. Leave yourself plenty of time and on a hot day take plenty of water. A hiking pole came in handy. More for the serious hiker so I'll mark this hike as difficult.

There are four campsites at this spot on Big Salmon Lake. Just past the campsite is a portage trail that leads over to Camel Lake.

Stream with bridge

This is where the trail really got interesting and lasted to the second Slide Lake Junction at the west end. A stream with good water flow is easily crossed and gives you a chance to top up your water (filtering of course).

I really liked this unnamed lake and sitting high up on a rock cliff I took time out for a break.

Big sign board located here and at the West end of Slide noting that the Rideau Trail (Ottawa to Kingston?) also shares the same path.

If you are striving for Campsite 2 it is another couple hundred meters away from the trail.
