Descripción del itinerario
Mets Lchasar ( Մեծ Լճասար ) is one of the peaks of the Gegham mountains located close to Sevan lake, in Gegharkunik region.
The mountain is situated near Lchashen village ( Լճաշեն գյուղ ).
Actually this is the village where the transcaucasian trail in the Geghama mountains starts.
Mets Lchasar is one of the lowest peaks of the Geghamas and it is located very farm from other Geghama peaks. The height of Mets Lchasar is 2393 m.
So during the hike you won't have a view of the Geghama volcanos. You will see Sevan lake, Mazaz mountain ( Մազազ լեռ ), Tsornasar mountain ( Ցորնասար լեռ ), Pokr Lchasar mountain ( Փոքր Լճասար լեռ) and Menaksar mountain (Մենակսար).
▶Recommended for:
Those who want an easy and not challenging mountain hike with Sevan lake view close to Yerevan ( 70 - minute drive).
The hike is absolutely kids friendly.
◤ABOUT THIS TRAIL◥
--- There are 2 ways to get to Mets Lchasar. One is from Lchashen village, and the second one is from Sevan Highway (on the way from Yerevan to Lchashen village).
We've chosen the one, that starts from Lchashen and returns there, as the route from Lchashen is shorter and it's safer to leave your car at the end of the village.
--- The way to the mountain slopes are jeep treks and it's quite easy to get there. As soon as you get to the slopes, the ascent begins, which is the only challenging part here.
--- There are no any marks or signposts here. So it's better to have a GPS map to be on the safe side.
--- As you see the trailhead here starts 1 km later, so the length of the whole trail will be 12 km.
▶ WHEN TO GO?
▶Doable:
You can hike the mountain from mid April till December. It always depends on season and snow condition there.
▶BEST time:
May and June is the right time to hike here to see the blooming nature and having nice temperature during the hike.
▶Not Recommended:
After mid July it's getting dry and hot here. So it's better to hike mountains above 3000 m, not below that altitude.
After December (snowfall) all the treks are snow blocked and not "passable" till April if you are not fond of "snowshoe" hikes.
