Descripción del itinerario
Maroon via spring crk
Starts at Drynans Hut. Cross creek and head up fire trail past Paddy's Falls. Head in onto creek bed near Paddys Plain remote bush camp. Continue up the creek bed for ~600m to a junction of 2 creeks. Take the left (northern) branch for a further ~400m, to about 400m elevation (waypoint 1). Head out of the creek bed to the left (northern side) and head up onto the crest of the adjacent ridge and follow this NNE. At about 530m elevation, veer left (north) and head diagonally down across the slope. Descend into a fairly narrow creek and pass across and up over the ridge on the other side and descend again - into Spring Creek - larger and more rocky creek bed.
Cross spring creek and climb out onto the ridge on the northern side - and turn and follow the ridge up close to Spring Creek. The ridge narrows with an abrupt fall on the right into Spring Creek and a progressively steeper fall on the left. Continue on the top of the ridge and eventually a small scrable up a rocky escarpment gives you some views. Head more east and back down - over a smal saddle into the trees and then follow NE - up another scramble or two. Then head over a small scramble and down into the main Maroon saddle. Can then join the tourist track and run up to the summit proper.
Return to the saddle and follow a faint track that follows the gorge and creek down the gorge. Very pleasant and in deep shade. After about an hour you leave the shade and into the creek bed of slabs and follow this all the way back to Paddys Plain remote bush camp site and then back to Drynans Hut.
A hard walk but varied scenery and very enjoyable.
