Descripción del itinerario
** Mestia to Zhabeshi **
This is the first part of a three day hike through the Svaneti region in the Caucasus. Some things to keep in mind:
- This is a gorgeous trek and although it is long, it never gets technical, and the "suffering" on the uphills will be generously compensated with beauty and experiences. You can do it at your own pace spread out over 4 days (instead of 3 as we did) which makes it doable even if you're not super fit. Note that the time recorded here is probably on the faster end (we're avid hikers), so maybe add one hour if you want to take it easier.
- The weather in September was still good, during the day we wore one or two layers, at night it gets chilly below 10 degrees so pack a warm sweater or jacket. Also, a good rain jacket and hiking shoes are a must.
- You can spend the night in guesthouses in the villages, where they also serve dinner and breakfast. In Mestia we stayed in Guest House Ushba and in Zhabeshi in Guest House Gogia, both were comfy and friendly.
- I recorded this track with a Garmin so it should be fairly accurate.
