Descripción del itinerario

A classic Friday escape route. We parked at the lower Mokhraka parking lot (upper still locked early in the morning), and started on the red trail just left of the gate around 8:00 am — clouds, mist, and a suspiciously large group of schoolkids heading up. We feared the worst (tour buses and Bluetooth speakers), but after the kids and two elderly cyclists, we had the hills to ourselves. Unless you count three cows. We do.

The trail descends gently along the red path — best done downhill, trust us — then curves right onto the black trail, skirting around Mokhraka from below. The views here are, frankly, Old Testament-level majestic: mixed pine-oak forests, rocky outcrops, and total silence.

In true explorer fashion, we didn't get lost — we creatively reinterpreted the trail. Don’t miss the right turn from black to red at Nahal Rakefet (we did, but doubled back nobly).

Partly shaded, mostly sunny, avoid after winter rains (mud!), and bring water, shoes with grip, and a day that isn’t 38°C. The route passes through the Karach Ruins shortly before the end — a final dose of crumbling charm among the trees.

Post-hike bonus:
At the end, you can visit Mokhraka monastery (5 NIS entry, worth every agora), then head to Daliyat al-Karmel for a well-earned stroll and a delicious meal at El’Kheir — highly recommended.
