Descripción del itinerario
This is a combination of the two trails at the Mt Piper Nature Conservation Reserve just outside Broadford.
The hike is in two sections - we tackled the circuit walk first and although it was winter with limited wildflowers, the bush itself was still pretty and you could tell that in spring it would be amazing. Even though the circuit is more or less flat, it still did have some small ups and downs. That section is about 3.5km. At completion you are once again back at the car park.
The second part of the walk is the summit - it's a somewhat zigzag up and back. Fairly consistent in incline but getting steeper at the very top. There are nice views on the way up and even though it is challenging, just go slow if you need to tackle it slowly. It is an achievable climb.
The views at the top are very nice. You then come down the same way - but it feels steeper somehow?! Poles could be useful for the summit walk, both up and down. It's roughly 2km return.
Finally, the road to get to the car park is quite rough - we did it in a small Mazda 2, but probably you shouldn't! Others in our group had been in spring and found the road flooded. You can park at the entrance to the reserve and walk in/out - the advantage to doing this would be that you could turn the walk into a decent length day hike - the road is pretty enough.
