Amazing views from the island of portovenere combined with beautiful landscapes. I did it in the summer and I rarely crossed someone doing it, which was fantastic!
I am staying at La Spezia, where I took a bus to Portovenere 3€ round trip. Buy the ticket in the machine, because in the bus the round trip will be for 10€. Once in Portovenere I took a boat 5€ round trip. Behaware of not taking the three-island boat tour that costs 12€.
Once in Palmaria I took the counter clockwise sense of the trail. This way you left behind the more stepy part of the trek first with your legs fresh. You can find different places to take a swim and have something to eat (if you didn't bring it with you).
I took a swim at Pozzale beach, with an amazing view of the mountains and less tourists than in Punta Secco.
I then finish the trail arriving at my starting point to take the boat back to Portovenere.
It is very easy, with only some difficulty on the first hike.

This trail appears to be several GPS "spots" connected by straight lines. We assumed that there was a single trail around the island and it would be easy to follow. In fact there are many (!) trails and it is not clear at all how to get from one of these "spots" to the next. Very frustrating...
