Descripción del itinerario

YOUTUBE VIDEO OF THIS HIKE: https://youtu.be/pMq4ajQ2VBI

This is a great hike that is good for beginner hikers. Nil views but you get to behold the fuselage of a small air craft - and that has some history to it. On 2 March 1977, a Piper Comanche crashed killing the only person on board - the pilot, Paul Pavletich.

The trail has several forks which can throw you off every now and then. An easy way to follow this trail is by using the MAPS.ME app on your phone. Network coverage works great here and its easy to stay on the trail route using the app. Took us basically 53 mins to get to the wreck from the start location to give you an idea and I would class this walk as 'EASY/MODERATE' as you can get off track here and there, and will required log hopping, and pushing past some bush, hanging vines, and roots. A family with two small children were also doing this hike to give you an idea, and they were doing just fine.

NOTES:
Basically, you start at the "Lepidozamia" track off Mount Glorious Rd. Park you car there and then go past the National Park gate entry. 50 meters up you'll find a trail heading off to the RIGHT. Follow this fire-trail which will involve a lot of log hopping which is plenty fun.

Keep following this trail which will eventually go up a big hill, and then the trail will narrow down to a small trodden path in many areas. You'll start seeing some pink ribbon markers around you'll want to follow. The main trail will VEER TO THE RIGHT and you'll soon come across a rusted old mobile winch on wheels which is 2km in from the start. You'll start seeing nasty Lawyer Vines ('wait-a-whiles') from now on so watch these as they love latching onto your clothing.

Keep following the trodden path (sometimes can be a bit hard to see but if you're using MAPS.ME, you can't miss it), and at the 2.7km point you'll come across a small rocky cairn. Here you'll want to turn LEFT. It pretty much starts going DOWNHILL from here and the path is a bit more difficult to see in places. Just keep descending downwards for 500m keeping to the main trail, and at the 3.3km mark you'll come across the Piper Comanche Plane Wreck. It's on the side of a hill but the angle isn't as bad as the Lincoln Bomber Wreck on Mt Superbus. Someone has left a laminated "Aircraft Accident Investigation Summary Report" which I have uploaded pictures of.

Back track the way you came to the carpark.

A easy enough trail to follow now that signs and pink markers have been added. The trail up from the plane is steep but relatively short. Did this hike with my 10 year old.
