Descripción del itinerario
The “Ruhegeister” hiking tour in Schmitten im Taunus is a circular route of around 14 kilometers, which begins and ends at the Catholic Church of St. Karl Borromäus in the town center. Alternatively, the route can also be started from various hiking parking lots. The route is marked throughout with the symbol of an owl.
After the start, the trail first climbs to the Wiegerfelsen, where there is a beautiful view over Schmitten. The trail continues uphill along root-covered paths to the highest point of the tour at around 519 meters before leading into the Großer Eichwald forest. Later, the forests open up to the meadows of the Weihergrund, through which the Aubach stream flows. Here, quiet forest edges alternate with sparse oak stands, through which you can already see the observation tower on the Pferdskopf. In several places, large wooden loungers and benches invite you to take a break and enjoy the panoramic views, sometimes towards the Pferdskopf, sometimes towards the Großer Feldberg.
The circular trail then leads over the Conradsberg towards Hunoldstal. It then follows the Weil through the districts of Brombach and Dorfweil. Finally, it returns to Schmitten via the Weiltalweg.
The route is moderately challenging, leads along easily accessible forest paths and trails, and offers a particularly relaxing hiking experience with its changing landscapes, streams, and wide views.
