What is it exactly?
The Via Aubenas Bike is a challenge which consists of carrying out a complete MTB crossing from Strasbourg (France) to Barcelona (Spain) « via » Aubenas .
There is no specific itinerary that has to be followed, the Via Aubenas is not a fixed Hiking Trail, but simply a polygon within which the journey should be laid out.
A participant should design his own itinerary, following his own criteria (countryside, architecture, passes, lodging, difficulty, speed etc.). Since it’s a question of a MTB crossing one could imagine that a participant would prioritise trails rather than paved roads.
A participant is perfectly free to choose an itinerary that has been completed by another participant or any itinerary or combination of itineraries that might be found on Internet for example.
Use of a GPS device is strongly recommended, indeed almost mandatory, since the actual track that has been followed will be requested in order to validate the Challenge Via Aubenas Bike.
There is no minimum or maximum time required and no limitations on the number of stages or “sessions”. You can take 15 days (maybe) or… several years to complete the challenge!
There is no ranking and no real recognition of the “fastest” (although the dates and times of starts and arrivals will be published).
The Challenge Via Aubenas Bike is not a « bike packing race », although it’s perfectly acceptable to do it in this frame of mind.
There are no constraints regarding self-sufficiency or lodging.
A participant must make the commitment to supply a report about his/her Via Aubenas, from 2 pages up to as many as he/she wishes which will be published on the web-site along with the desired choice of photos.
Of course a participant must respect any existing laws or regulations – he/she is on a private journey.

In short – it’s your turn to Play!
